  70.   General -- Edit rLIST
  71. The rLIST window allows adding and editing of data to all rLIST table columns
  72. except rNotePad.  Changes made to the current record are saved automatically
  73. upon a successful Find, Next record, Previous record, or Exit.

  75. The following keys provide field movement within the rLIST window:

  77.     <Tab>       - Moves to the next field
  78.     <Shft-Tab>  - Moves to the previous field

  118.   General -- Edit NotePad
  119. The NotePad window allows adding and editing of text to the rLIST table column
  120. rNotePad. The NotePad is a word wrapping text editor capable of holding up to
  121. 3,300 characters. The following keys provide text editing within the NotePad:
  122.  
  123. <Insert>     - Toggles between insert and overwrite mode
  124.                (overwrite is the default mode)
  125. <Delete>     - Deletes the character directly over the cursor
  126. <Backspace>  - Deletes the character to the left of the cursor and moves the
  127.                cursor one position to the left
  128. <Home>       - Moves to the beginning of the current line
  129. <End>        - Moves to the end of the current line
  130. <Up>         - Moves the cursor up one line
  131. <Down>       - Moves the cursor down one line
  132. <PgUp>       - Displays the previous screen load
  133. <PgDn>       - Displays the next screen load
  134. <Ctrl-Home>  - Moves the cursor to the top of the text
  135. <Ctrl-End>   - Moves the cursor to the bottom of the text
  136. <Enter>      - In insert mode, inserts CR-LF and moves the cursor to the
  137.                first position of the next line. In overwrite mode, moves

  150. <F4>-Block   - Press <F4> to begin blocking.  Use arrow keys to block text and
  151.                press <F4> again to end blocking.  <Alt-F4> removes blocking
  152. <F5>-NotePad - Removes the NotePad from the display screen. Use <Shft-F5> to
  153.                return to rLIST window and leave the NotePad on screen
  154. <F6>-Copy    - Copies a block of text to the cursor location
  155. <F7>-Move    - Moves a block of text to the cursor location
  156. <F8>-Delete  - Deletes a block of text
  157. <Alt-F7>     - Moves the cursor back one word
  158. <Alt-F8>     - Moves the cursor forward one word

  166.   General -- Find record(s)
  167. Presents a pop-up window containing rLIST field names used in defining
  168. conditions for the retrieval of rLIST table records for viewing and editing.
  169. Once a field has been selected, another window with applicable comparison
  170. operators for the field is displayed.  Comparison operators that have two
  171. trailing periods (e.g., Equal to..) will present a dialog window for data to be
  172. entered and used by the chosen comparison operator.  Find is not case sensitive
  173. on data supplied to comparison operators.
  174.  
  175. Wildcard characters can be used in data supplied to the 'Equal to' and 'Not
  176. equal to' comparison operators.  Wildcard characters are the asterisk (*) and
  177. the question mark (?).  These wildcards employ similar functionality as their
  178. MS-DOS counterparts.  The asterisk is used to designate that all remaining
  179. characters in the field are valid.  The question mark is used in place of a
  180. single character to designate that any character found in its place is valid.

  182. The search criteria can be expanded or narrowed using logical connectors.  After
  183. the first condition is defined, a pop-up window with the following selections
  184. appears: AND, AND NOT, OR, OR NOT, (Done).

  191. These logical connectors may be used up to three times to group four separate
  192. conditions together.  The final search criteria is evaluated from left to right.
  193. If the last logical connector is AND and the last condition uses the "Equal to"
  194. operator on an indexed (key) column, the index is used and will invoke a very
  195. rapid search and retrieval of the rLIST table's records.
  196.  
  197. If Find is unsuccessful, the specified search criteria is displayed with the
  198. message 'No record(s) found for this criteria' and the current Where clause
  199. remains in effect.

  239. Use to add a new record to the rLIST table.

  241. Data that is entered into newly added records does not have to satisfy the
  242. conditions of the current Where clause and these records are not automatically
  243. sorted according to the current Sort clause.  Instead, each new record is placed
  244. in front of the current record and its reference is added to the Record Queue.
  245.  
  246. Added records become available for viewing and editing provided they satisfy the
  247. conditions of the new Where clause established by a successful Find.  These
  248. records will then be sorted in the order specified by the current Sort clause.

  263. Position the cursor on a phone field and select Phone call under General of the
  264. pull-down Menu <F10> or press <F6> if rLIST is the active window to dial the
  265. phone number through a modem.  The mouse can also be used to dial a phone number
  266. by double-clicking the left mouse button on a phone field.

  268. If the current field is not a phone field and there is only one phone number
  269. that exists, Phone call will automatically dial that phone number or, if more
  270. than one phone number exists, a pop-up window will prompt for which phone number
  271. to dial.

  335. rLIST has an internal memory buffer large enough to keep a list of references to
  336. approximately three thousand records from the rLIST table at any one time.  This
  337. list of references is known as the Record Queue.
  338.  
  339. The Record Queue is reset to one (1) upon each successful Find.  It is then
  340. incremented by one (1) each time a record is retrieved from the rLIST table with
  341. Next record or a new record is added to the rLIST table with Add record.  Press
  342. <Alt-F10> to invoke a pop-up window that displays the number of available
  343. (unused) references in the Record Queue.
  344.  
  345. If the Record Queue should become full, a pop-up window will display the message
  346. "Record Queue is full!."  In this event, the following two rLIST functions will
  347. NOT be available:
  348.  
  349.     » Add record will NOT add a new record.
  350.  
  351.     » Next record will only retrieve records that have been previously retrieved
  352.       from the rLIST table.  No new records will be retrieved from the rLIST
  353.       table even though there may be records available that would normally be
  354.       retrieved based on the Where clause.

  385. defined via Find.  Two-letter abbreviations for several comparison operators are

  388.     EQ - Equal to..                    Count GT 0 - Access to all records.
  389.     NE - Not equal to..                             This is the default on
  390.     GT - Greater than..                             program startup.

  412. Note: Added records are not automatically sorted according to the current Sort
  413. clause.  Instead, each new record is placed in front of the current record and

  506. The rLIST or NotePad window can be repositioned on the display screen by holding
  507. down the <Ctrl> key and pressing an arrow key to move the window (in the
  508. direction of the arrow key) to a new location.  The mouse can also be used to
  509. reposition either window.  Place the mouse cursor on the selected window border,
  510. hold down the left mouse button and reposition the window by moving the mouse.

  512. The rLIST window can be resized by holding down the <Alt> key and pressing the
  513. <Up> or <Down> arrow keys.  If made smaller, fields within the rLIST window will
  514. scroll using the <Enter>, <Tab>, <Shft-Tab>, <PgUp> or <PgDn> keys.  The NotePad
  515. window can be made larger or smaller by holding down the <Alt> key and pressing
  516. an arrow key to resize the window.  The mouse can also be used to resize either
  517. window.  Place the mouse cursor on the selected window border's corner, hold
  518. down the left mouse button and resize the window by moving the mouse.

  520. Window size and position coordinates are automatically stored in cOnfiguration
  521. file for subsequent sessions.

  983. When an rLIST table record is deleted, the disk space formerly occupied by the
  984. deleted record is not reused by rLIST.  As more records are deleted, this unused
  985. space accumulates.  To recapture this disk space, it is necessary to PACK the
  986. R:BASE database from time to time.  This can be done using R:BASE or Personal
  987. R:BASE with the PACK or RELOAD commands or with SEPACK, a utility provided with
  988. the registered version of rLIST, at the DOS prompt.  Be sure to have a backup
  989. copy of the database before starting the procedure.  PACK must NOT be
  990. interrupted while in operation.
